This piece was a special commission for a second wedding anniversary. Cotton is the symbol for the second year of marriage – its symbolic as cotton fibers are closely interwoven, much like two peoples lives in the second year of marriage.
This pendant is inspired by the cellulose molecular structure C6H10O5(n), this molecule is a repeating unit. Cotton is 90% cellulose so this was the perfect choice for this cotton themed gift. The sterling silver pendant represents a single cellulose unit. It’s a piece made to be treasured and loved.
Red Wine Lovers! It’s almost here!
This is going to be the molecule for the gift giving season this year from Emily Alice Jewellery.
While my dopamine and serotonin collections are always popular, I’m already generating a lot of interest with people who have had an early peek at this new design.
If you are new to my molecule jewellery designs then read below to learn how the resveratrol jewellery relates to the molecule.
This collection will include pendants, earrings, rings, cufflinks, full necklaces and bracelets.
As with most of my collections, each item will be available in sterling silver and also rose gold and yellow gold vermeil. This new collection will also be produced using recycled silver for the molecule sculpture.
The collection will be open for pre-orders in August 2015. Sign up below to get the first chance to buy these. (and perhaps a promotion!)
The diagram below is a simple description of how the jewellery represents the red wine molecule. Molecules are made up of different elements. This molecule is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The spheres on the sculpted jewellery each represent an atom of one of the 3 elements. Still want to know more? Read ‘About the Designs’.
Prices will start from £85 and pieces will ship internationally.

This lovely commission left my studio this summer. Designed for a couple of postdoctoral researchers, they wanted a ring each that would also fit together to represent the avidin – biotin interaction.
To give you a simple overview, Avidin is a protein and Biotin is a vitamin. The Avidin is represented by the central cross on the rings (shown in green) when they are placed together.
Avidin can bind up to four Biotin molecules. These molecules are represented by the ring shanks which curve around and join into the valleys of the cross. The ‘S’ and ‘N’ are the initials of the couple.
The shape of the ring shank represents the backbone of the biotin conjugate.
These wonderful pictures were taken by my customer after the avidin and biotin rings arrived and she kindly let me use them here!
As you probably already know, they oxytocin molecule is not for the faint-hearted. We know that it plays a big part in bonding us to the people we love, but did you know that the structure of the molecule is also pretty complicated?
It’s the most detailed molecule in my jewelry collection so when a customer asked me to make a ring in this molecule, I knew I was facing a challenge. And a challenge I was looking forward to! (I’ve made interactive atom cufflinks and spinning rings. I can do this!)
In the end we decided to make a wide band with the design of the oxytocin molecule cut into it. The back of the band was shaped to be narrower for comfort.
It makes a great piece for someone who is not afraid of large rings!
Are you looking for your own oxytocin ring? These are not yet a permanent feature in my shop, but contact me below if you would like to find out more and order one, or design a different style oxytocin ring that is right for you.
You can also take a look at the oxytocin collection in my shop for other items of jewelry. Enjoy!
It’s all about trust, bonding and love. Made for someone very dear to you.

There are billions of molecules! But only one was right for the launch of the Lexus IS in 2013.
I was very proud to be approached by the team that runs the PR for Lexus and asked to make a batch of cufflinks that could be used in their press kits for a special launch.
The PR team was using the adrenaline theme to compliment the personality of the car ‘fashionable, bold and exciting’ and my cufflinks were a perfect match. They designed the spherical pod to encase the cufflinks to echo the shape of the elements in the molecule.
Each pair of cufflinks were carefully handmade in my studio from sterling silver and given a blackened finish. Many hours of work went into making each pair perfect!
The PR kits were sent to journalists across the US and my wonderful contact kept me updated on the feedback they were getting. The cufflinks were a huge hit and there was some great feedback from journalists at Cigar Aficionado, GQ and The Robb Report to name a few.
The cufflinks were so well loved that I even had an order for an additional few pairs of cufflinks to be presented to the (V)VIPs at Lexus/Toyota! I was so thrilled that my adrenaline cufflinks were such a good match – as were the PR team.

A New Design
Coming very soon, a new design of the oxytocin pendant, and brand new to the collection – earrings and bracelet in the same style!
The previous pendant was a huge hit and I just know that you are going to love this collection even more. Only the best for such an
important molecule in our lives. If you want to learn more about oxytocin then take a look at this post.
But right now here is a sneak peek for you. The new style is made up of solid silver spheres – much like my very popular dopamine range. Ok, enough words from me. Feast your eyes on the pendant and earrings here….

This project was a private commission from a VIP at Nescafe. My client wanted to give some caffeine jewellery to his team as a Christmas gift and asked me if I could design some pieces for him.
At the time I didn’t have any caffeine inspired jewellery in my collection and was excited to create something new for him.
After sending over a few designs it was decided that I would make cufflinks for the men and pendants that doubled up as brooches for the women.
Both designs used the caffeine molecule with an oval shape. The oval was to represent the coffee bean.
We worked together to write a description to be featured on the packaging and each piece also had a personlised engraving on the back.
The gifts were very well recieved by the team and it was a wonderful to fabricate each meaningful piece.
If you want to see more – check out my project with a the PR team at Lexus.
This oxytocin pendant was commissioned as a Valentine’s Day gift. Oxytocin is hormonal superglue and is the bond in all out relationships. Read more about it here!

A Little Word Play
Red herrings: I quite like words, I like word play even more.
This is a re-visitation of an old project – in fact it was the project I set myself for my final year at university.
The source of my inspiration is the dictionary. I have been through my copy with a fine toothed comb and collected all the words I can find with the word ‘ring’ in it somewhere. Firing, remebering, enduring and hard-of-hearing are a few examples. I’m working on fabricating a range of words into rings to be worn. Check back for updates and to see how I have interpenetrated the words I choose.
Here are some that I have already created;

Customer’s Requirements
My customer had recently lost a family member and contacted me to make a memorial necklace with a piece removed so she could bury it with her loved one. She had lost one of her cousins leaving 3 in her family so she asked for 3 pieces on the necklace and one separate piece of dopamine.
Designs
I suggested that we design the necklace with a physical space where the fourth piece would have been, a way to remember her family member.
It also turned out that the separate piece was to be cremated so I had to find a new material to work with as the silver would not burn and would be removed at the crematorium.
Result
After some experimenting I sculpted a dopamine piece from papier mache and painted it silver.
My client chose a design that had the outline of the fourth piece on the chain and would serve as a beautiful reminder for her.
You can see the result on the right, my client loved it: “it’s perfect”, and it was a beautiful project for me to work with her on.
This wonderful molecule is the bond in all your relationships. It has been described as hormonal superglue and influences us through touch.
It bonds us to friends, children, lovers and family. A simple hand-hold can produce that warm fuzzy feeling. What a nice molecule!
These cufflinks are handmade from sterling silver and the holes on the front depict the oxytocin molecule. The molecule is split across the two faces as it’s quite a large one!

An adrenaline molecule ring, with a beautiful custom engraving. The front shows the molecule adrenaline and the groom chose to have the ring in silver.
This ring was made as a wedding band for a groom and he was thrilled with his choice and the craftsmanship.
I’ve made a similar ring to this before, in the blackened silver style that you’ll see in my classic adrenaline collection. See below for pictures of the blackened adrenaline ring.

This lovely little snowflake was not formed in a cloud being whisked around as I described a few days ago. But it was made carefully from sterling silver – hand cut with my jewellers saw. Each snowflake I have made this winter is totally unique and there are only three left. Here is one of them – click the image to see more detail and to find more.
Narrative Jewelry Chapter 1: EnteRing (entering) / InjuRing (injuring)
This ring has two names, because they both fit the story for this tongue in cheek creation. Mounted on the silver band is a very non-precious stone, in fact it was a part of the road up until the point that my boyfriend launched himself onto it from the seat of his motorbike. At this point the stone entered and injured his arm (and stayed there for longer than advisable).
The silver band has a scratched/damaged look – much like the motorbike did after said incident.

3. to damage, an opportunity to injure your reputation…*
Narrative Jewelry Chapter 2: RecoveRing (recovering)
As I mentioned above, the stone lingered, resulting in a minor hospital visit and a short course of antibiotics. Hence: recovering. And he is fine by the way!
Recover

The Chain Reactions: Adrenaline collection, is now finished. Here are the new designs available in the store. Each piece is handmade from sterling silver and is blackened to give a bold finish. As with all pieces in the chain reactions collection the shapes are abstract interpretations of the molecular structure of the neurotransmitter adrenaline (epinephrine) C9H13NO3.
I’m redesigning my adrenaline jewellery range, its not finished yet but here is a peek at the new earrings for you. Sterling silver with a black finish to echo the strength and power that adrenaline brings. As with all the pieces from the Chain Reactions Collection the shape of the jewellery is based on the molecular structure of the hormone, in this case, adrenaline.

It’s time to switch from a strong chemical pickle in my workshop to a more friendly alternative which has less impact on the environment and is easier to dispose of. Now the question is what is my best alternative?
I have heard that people are using vinegar with salt, or citric acid, instead of the usual jewellers’ choice; sodium bisulphate. This afternoon I did a quick experiment to see which gives the best results in the shortest time.
I used this recipe that I found for the vinegar solution: 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 tablespoon of salt. I dissolved the citric acid powder in warm water until it was saturated.
I had some large silver jump rings to solder so I set up a bowl of hot citric acid and a bowl of hot vinegar solution.
After quenching my jump rings I put one in each pickle solution and waited.
Of course it took longer than the sodium bisulphate but after a couple of minutes it was clear that the vinegar was cleaning the silver quicker.
Ten minutes later and these were the results. I tried the test again in the interest of fairness and found the same.
Vinegar wins! Anyone know of anything better?
